Start the 12 Days Morocco Tour from Casablanca and visit Chefchaouen, the famous Blue City nestled in the Rif Mountains to the north, before exploring the famous medina of Fes. Then head to the Sahara Desert and make your dream come true on a camel. Ride through Morocco’s southern region and on to Marrakech, where you’ll end the trip with sights and sounds and the smell of exotic spices and snail soup!
Itinerary:
Day 1 : Arrival in Casablanca
On the furst day of our 12 Days Morocco Tour from Casablanca. Arrival in Casablanca. Spend some time getting your bearings and rest after your flight. Visit the site of the Hassan II Mosque, located on the Atlantic Ocean and open to tourists, even if you are not Muslim. Then transfer to your Riad/hotel in the center of Casablanca. Welcome dinner, accommodation and breakfast.
Day 2 : Casablanca – Rabat – Chefchaouen
Leave Casablanca and drive north to the capital Rabat, where you will enjoy a few hours’ tour of the highlights, including the mausoleum and tower of Hassan II, as well as the Kasbah Oudaya, overlooking the ocean and with a beautiful garden within its walls.
Afterwards, relax and take in the scenery as you travel through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen.
Day 3 : Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez
Enjoy a morning stroll through the medina as local women prepare to wash the family’s clothes in the local riverbed and shopkeepers slowly open their businesses for the day. Have a coffee in the square and reflect on this magnificent and simple way of life in the mountains. Continue the tour now to the imperial city of Meknes, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. City tour: Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and Plaza Lahdim. Lunch in a typical Moroccan restaurant in this city. Continuing the day’s route, it’s on to Volubilis, the city of the Romans. Today, you will have free time to drive through the countryside to the bustling old town of Fez, with its complex and chaotic Medina.
Day 4 : Fes – City tour
Today you will meet your local guide and enjoy a day tour of the medina and its surroundings. Marvel at the carved brass gates of the Royal Palace, walk through the Jewish quarter, stroll through the narrow, bustling streets of the medina and stop to see demonstrations by weavers, carpet knotters, brass hammerers and tile and pottery makers. Visit the famous tanneries, a UNESCO site famous for its natural dyeing methods that date back centuries. You will stop for lunch along the way and return to your riad dazzled by the sights and sounds.
Day 5 : Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
Leave Fez behind and your camels will be waiting for you. Drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, past cedar forests and rolling hills. See monkeys and Berber horses and stop in the small European village of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco”.
Then head south to Midalt and the stunning Ziz Valley, where you’ll see valleys and oases filled with date palms as far as the eye can see. Berber villages and kasbahs will take over the view as you pass Erfoud and enter Merzouga. When you get there, you’ll drive off the road for a bit before arriving at the hotel, where you say goodbye to the car for the night and climb into the campervan for a walk back to camp.
If you prefer, we can arrange 4×4 vehicles to take you there and pick you up. Spend the night in tents under the stars, with dinner and breakfast prepared by the nomads who operate the camp.
Day 6: Merzouga – Nomads – Khamlia – Erg Chebbi
Waking up early in the morning is a must in order to contemplate the beautiful sunrise in the middle of the desert. Free time for breakfast. You will then return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 vehicle, where your driver will be waiting for you. We dedicate the seventh day of your 12-day tour of Morocco to exploring the Merzouga region. The area has many incredible sites, from sand dunes, wild lake, mines, fossil areas to fabulous oases. They are ideal places for many outdoor activities.
First, we start our journey in Merzouga, driving off-road to visit an old eyeliner mine. Next, we’ll pay a visit to the Berber nomads in their hand-woven tent. Learn how they live while drinking Berber tea. Our next destination is the village of Khamlia, where you can enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances. Its inhabitants come from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan and Niger. Free time for lunch in a restaurant. Afterwards, we’ll take a stroll through a palm grove.
Finally, we’ll return to Merzouga, have dinner and spend the night in the hotel.
Day 7 Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
We wake up early in the morning to watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the color of the dunes combines with the play of shadows to create an impressive sight.
After a cup of tea, we’ll ride the camels for a few hours (or less, you decide) and, at the Kasbah, we’ll have breakfast and a shower, before setting off for the fortified village of Rissani, in the Tafilalet region.
Nestled on the edge of the Ziz Valley, Rissani is a traditional desert village, but it is home to the impressive Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the first ruler of the Alawite dynasty, who prospered here in the 17th century.
Travel through the impressive Todra Gorges and past the eastern slopes of the Atlas Mountains to the Tinghir Oasis, with its green valley of palm trees and local villages, before continuing on a panoramic tour of the Dades Valley, also known as the “Valley of 1000 Kasbahs”. Overnight in the Dades Valley.
Day 8: Dades Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech
This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we’ll set off for Ouarzazate via Skoura. Stop for a panoramic view of the Taourirt kasbah and then another photo stop near the Atlas film studios.
We will then visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the village. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi N Tichka pass (2260 m above sea level). Disembark in Marrakech.
Day 9: Marrakech – City tour
Your guide will meet you at the Riad for a tour of Marrakech, including the grounds of the Koutoubia mosque, the Bahia Palace, the Saadian tombs, the Mellah or old Jewish quarter, the Majorelle garden. After lunch, shop for souvenirs in the souks (public markets) and try to haggle. Finally enjoy the intoxicating atmosphere at the famous Jamaa El Fna. Dinner and overnight in the same city.
Day 10: Marrakech – Essaouira – Marrakech
Skirting Marrakech today, you’ll head west to the Portuguese fishing village of Essaouira. Enjoy the quiet Medina full of artists and musicians. Take a tour of the working fishing port and choose lunch straight from the boat to be prepared on a nearby grill and walk for miles along the beach, a major attraction for locals and visitors alike.In the afternoon we’ll return to Marrakech
Day 11 Free day in Marrakech
Day 12: Marrakech or Casablanca airport
Breakfast and departure for Casablanca, towards the airport to catch the plane back home according to your flight schedule. And end of our 12 Days Morocco Tour from Casablanca.
