14-Day Tour from Tangier to Marrakech departing from Tangier and arriving in Marrakech. You will have the opportunity to explore northern Morocco, some of the imperial cities, the impressive Sahara Desert and the coastal city of Essaouira.
You will have time to explore the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis (UNESCO). You will also visit two of Morocco’s imperial cities: Fes and Meknes (both UNESCO). In the old part of Fes, you will have a tour with an official city guide.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen
The fgurst dya of our 14-Day Tour from Tangier. This will be our meeting day and we will then start the journey to Chefchaouen. Depending on the time we leave Tangier, we may briefly visit Tétouan. The historic center of this city is one of the nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Morocco. On arrival in Chefchaouen, we’ll have some free time to explore the “Blue Pearl of Morocco”, as the city is known. We’ll have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 2: Chefchaouen
The second day of our trip will be spent entirely in Chefchaouen. We’ll have time to explore the streets of its medina and take pictures of what is one of Morocco’s most picturesque cities. We’ll be able to visit the panoramic points that offer us the best views of the “pearl of Morocco”, as Chefchaouen is also known. We will spend a second night in this city.
Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes
After breakfast, we’ll set off for a busy day. At our first stop, we’ll visit the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis. Shortly afterwards we’ll arrive in Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, where we’ll see the main sights. At the end of the day we’ll arrive in Fes, where we’ll spend the night.
Day 4: Fes
A day dedicated to the historic city of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will have the opportunity to visit the city’s main places of interest, including one of the oldest universities in the world and the tanneries with their colorful tanks. Second night in Fes.
Day 5: Fes – Ifrane – Erfoud – Merzouga
Leaving Fes after breakfast, we’ll start our journey into the desert. First we’ll pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains, visiting Ifrane, a city known as “Moroccan Switzerland” for its urban organization and architectural style. Then we’ll stop in a cedar forest where we can observe a colony of free-roaming monkeys. We will then pass through the Ziz valley, dotted with picturesque villages and a magnificent natural landscape. In Erfoud we will see the fossils that make this town famous, and shortly afterwards we will arrive in Merzouga, at the gates of the desert. There we will leave the car behind and get on the camels that will take us to the place where we will see the sunset. Then we’ll arrive at the camp where we’ll be served a traditional dinner and spend the night.
Day 6: Merzouga – Khamlia – Erg Chebbi
After watching the sun rise over the desert, we’ll return to the place where we left the car. We’ll have breakfast and be able to take a shower before starting another day of exploring. The first stop will be Khamlia, a village inhabited by a community from Mali. There we will have the opportunity to attend a concert of traditional Gnawa music. Using stretches of desert used in the famous Paris – Dakar car race, we’ll reach the Khol mines which we’ll visit, as well as a village with French and Berber features. Finally, we’ll stop to see the Erg Chebbi dunes, the highest in the country at 350 meters. In the afternoon we’ll have the opportunity to rest. The night is spent in a hotel in the desert.
Day 7: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Valley – Dades Valley
The first stop on this day will be Rissani, a desert town where there has long been a market which has become the most important in the region. We will then visit the Todra valley and its geological landscape. We’ll then pass through the Dades Valley and spend the night there.
Day 8: Dades Valley – Valley of the Roses – Ouarzazate
After breakfast we’ll start the journey towards Ouarzazate, passing through the Valley of the Roses and entering the so-called Route of a Thousand Kasbahs. Of course, we’ll have the chance to visit some of these fortified villages before arriving in Ouarzazate, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night.
Day 9: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
In the morning, while still in Ouarzazate, we will visit the Taourirt kasbah. We’ll then set off in the direction of Marrakech, stopping off at Ait Ben Haddou. Here we’ll find a ksar classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. We’ll arrive in Marrakech where we’ll have the opportunity to rest and relax, with the rest of the day free. We will spend the night in this city.
Day 10: Marrakech
In the morning, after breakfast, we will take a guided tour of Marrakech. We will see the city’s main sights such as the Koutobia mosque, the Ben Youssef madrasah, the Bahia palace, the Saadian tombs and, of course, the Yamaa el Fna square. The afternoon will be free, so you can return to the sights that impressed you the most or discover new places in this fascinating city.
Day 11: Marrakech
A day to enjoy the city of Marrakech as you wish. We can relax in the riad, stroll through the streets, visit museums, watch the crowds, shop in the markets. There’s no shortage of options in a city as rich as this. We’ll spend another night in Marrakech.
Day 12: Marrakech – Essaouira
After breakfast we’ll be picked up by our transport which will take us to Essaouira. On the way we can stop at an olive oil cooperative and visit the process of making this product. The rest of the day will be spent in Essaouira, a historic city founded by the Portuguese in the 15th century, which has a wide beach next to it. We’ll be able to explore the fortifications and ramparts and get lost in the alleyways surrounded by colorful houses, paying special attention to the doors and windows. We will spend the night in Essaouira.
Day 13: Essaouira
A day dedicated entirely to this beautiful seaside town. We’ll be able to do a bit of beachcombing or go horse riding or camel riding on the sand. The fishing port is very picturesque and there are a number of museums, not to mention good restaurants.
Day 14: Essaouira – Marrakech
On this last day of our Moroccan adventure, we’ll return to Marrakech where, with the option of an airport transfer, we’ll end our 14-Day Tour from Tangier.
